How to reach Stanley, Idaho
East from Boise (past the airport) take the Ponderosa Pine
Scenic Route on State Highway 21. This will take you to Idaho
City, Lowman and then Stanley. Approximately 130 miles, or a
3 hour drive. As you near Stanley the view of the Sawtooth Mountains
is spectacular. Plan some time for picture taking. Another
option: Head west on I-80 to Eagle Exit. Take highway 55 to
McCall, turn right at Banks, then to Garden Valley, Lowman,
and then to Stanley.
THE IDEAL TRAVEL PLAN IS...
To book with one of the major air carriers that fly into Boise
(see information sheet). The fastest and most convenient way
to get from Boise is with a small air taxi charter. The air
taxi will meet you at the Boise airport and fly you directly
to Stanley (approximately a 40 minute flight). When you come
off the river at the end of your trip we will have the air taxi
meet you at the closest airport (Salmon, Idaho), which is about
an hour and a half bus ride. They will fly you directly to Boise
that afternoon. We don't advise people to fly out of Boise the
same day they come off the river, due to the possibility of
delays you could miss your commercial flight. We are not responsible
for any delays on your travel arrangements. The second travel
option is to rent a car once you are in Boise and drive to Stanley
(a three hour drive). When you come off your river trip we return
you to Stanley about 5 or 6 in the evening. This trip is a 5
hour bus ride. The next morning drive your rental car to Boise.
PLEASE NOTE... The ride from the takeout back to Stanley is
a long one...flying is by far the preferred alternative.
